N59 Maam Cross to Bunakill

The N59 Maam Cross to Bunakill Project consisted of the realignment of 5.5km of the existing carriageway to new Type 3 standard carriageway width (8m) with enhanced sight lines. The majority of the proposed works were undertaken on line while existing traffic were accommodated through the works site for the duration of the project. Clare Civil were appointed as P.S.C.S. by Galway County Council for the project. Significant temporary works and traffic management measures were designed and implemented by Clare Civil to safely construct the works where some peat excavations were in excess of 8m’s deep adjacent to the existing carriageway. This project is located adjacent to both the Connemara Bog Complex SAC and Maumturk Mountains SAC. Clare Civil worked collaboratively with multiple stakeholders such as Inland Fisheries, National Parks and Wildlife, Jacobs Environmental team and Galway County Council to ensure that all environmental mitigation measures required were adhered to while successfully delivering these works.
