N61 Ratallen and Treangry Road Improvement Scheme, Roscommon

The project comprised the realignment and widening of 3km of the existing N61 between Tulsk and Boyle, Co Roscommon. The scheme included the excavation of peat depths of up to 11m BGL to allow construction of new road alignment. Clare Civil were responsible for the implementation of significant traffic management measures for the duration of the project. There were a number of Contractor design elements such as underpass structures that Clare Civil successfully incorporated into the works. Clare Civil worked collaboratively with Roscommon County Council and their designers Jacobs Engineering to reuse all excavated material from cuts (150,000m3) within the works as suitable fill to ensure that only the minimum of materials were designated for disposal off site to landfill thus ensuring that the project’s environmental credentials were significantly enhanced.
